Commercial Espresso Machine
A quality
commercial espresso machine for the home or office can be expensive. These machines are far more complicated than a simple drip coffee machine. Yes, their basic function is similar—forcing hot water through coffee grounds. But today’s espresso machines come equipped with a number of different features that will guarantee you a great cup of coffee each and every time.
The best way to select the
commercial espresso machine that is right for you is to learn a bit about them. There are four basic kinds of
espresso machines, and each one has its own advantages and disadvantages.
1. Steam-powered Espresso Machine
Steam-powered models are probably the most popular espresso machines on the market today. They are
extremely easy to use and do not take up much space. As you might expect, these machines use stream from the hot water to create pressure, which then moves through the coffee grounds. The primary complaint leveled against steam-powered espresso machines is that sometimes the pressure is not enough to make a really strong cup of coffee. In fact, many coffee connoisseurs refuse to drink coffee that comes from these machines.
2. Pump Espresso Machine
If you are looking for a powerful
commercial espresso machine, you need look no further. Pump espresso machines rely of powerful pumps to create the proper water pressure. They are the espresso machine of choice for many cafes and restaurants. But, of course, no machine is perfect. Pump espresso machines tend to be extremely large and noisy. While this might be okay in a busy restaurant kitchen, a loud coffee maker might not be the best choice for a home espresso machine. They can also be quite expensive.
3. Lever/Piston Espresso Machine
This
espresso maker is not only the quietest model on the market, but it’s also affordable. It uses a manual lever to create pressure. These machines make for easy cleanup, require no maintenance, and do not take up much counter space. However, the quality of the espresso is often inconsistent.
4. Moka Pot
If you are looking for a simple commercial espresso machine, you might decide on a Moka pot. Actually, these coffee makers aren’t really machines at all…they are stove-top pots. When the water in the bottom half of the pot boils, it forces steam through
the coffee in the upper half of the pot. It is the simplest and least expensive commercial espresso machine you can find. The complaints against Moka pots tend to focus on their inability to create proper pressure. They also do not include a frothing or foaming attachment.
Now that you know a few things about the four basic kinds of machines, it should a lot easier for you to go online and select the commercial espresso machine that
best suits your needs.
